His art is inspired by the ideology of Dadaism and can be considered as pertaining to Pop Art for its unholy irony. It doesn’t want to be a part of a simple classification in readymade trends or canonic values, but rather a recognition of the numerous and multifaceted skills of an artist, who wishes to play with objects and transform the obvious into something unexpected, which is rooted in a reflection on contemporaneousness as the only dimension of thought.
The meaning of life can be interpreted in many ways. The interpretation given by Damiano Spelta is metaphorically ironic and provocative, sarcastic and snappy.
He thrills and fascinates us with his peculiar language, leaving us often amused, but first of all surprisingly contemplative in front of his works that lead us to a social reflection.
Experimenting with materials and techniques, his art and design blend without conformism; he draws his inspiration from his reflection about the contemporary world and its contradictions. The forms used by Damiano are signs, they are the construction of meanings and as such they reveal infinite creation and styles of expression. Some examples are "Xolex", made of steel, aluminium and glass that provocatively sends us back to the wristwatch, the status symbol par excellence, or "500" composed by an airbrushed car shell reproducing a € 500 note for a Fiat 500 using original assembly materials, or "The Tongue", a deck chair with a tongue that wraps anyone who give in to the pleasure, as well as "Omaggio a Fontana", "Mazzetta", "Compassione" and other works of his extensive production.
It represents an artistic journey marked by perspicacity and symbolic eclecticism that confronts us with aesthetic forms and critical values, filled with evocative contents.

In my opinion Damiano Spelta is one of the rare artist who is interpreting the reality through the objects.
He manages to notice things which belongs to the daily life and with his creativity changes the function of the object and transform its scale.
Therefore we can have a watch which becomes a kind of chair or a chaise longue composed by a big tongue which can remind us how much people are speaking in vain, or again the case of a giant lipstick which becomes the operating pivot of a small table and expresses the importance of the cosmetics in our life.
The result is that these objects are refusing the abstraction, as desirable and blessed aptitude, and are introducing us into the world of the imagination in an ironic, jovial and fantasy manner.
